Dumbo Ear Betta (Betta splendens – Elephant Ear Variant)
The Dumbo Ear Betta, also called the Elephant Ear Betta, is a breathtaking variant of Betta splendens, recognized by its oversized pectoral fins that fan out like elephant ears—hence the name. These fins create a dramatic, elegant fluttering motion as the fish swims, adding to its majestic appearance.
Dumbo Bettas are available in a wide variety of colors and tail types, including Halfmoon, Delta, and Veiltail. Their signature pectoral fins are usually contrasting in color—for example, a blue body with white fins—making them even more eye-catching.
Growing up to 2.5–3 inches, they are ideal for small aquariums or desktop tanks, with gentle filtration, warm water (24–28°C or 75–82°F), and plenty of cover like plants or caves.
Dumbo Bettas are territorial, especially males, and are typically housed alone. They thrive on a diet of high-quality floating pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms or brine shrimp to boost their health and color vibrancy.
With proper care, Dumbo Bettas can live 3–5 years, offering a combination of grace, color, and unique fin display that few fish can match.
