Delhezi Bichir (Polypterus delhezi)
Also known as the Armored Bichir, the Delhezi is a captivating and rare species of Polypterus, prized for its unique black-striped pattern, thick armored body, and dinosaur-like dorsal finlets. It typically showcases a greenish-grey base color with bold vertical bands, giving it an ancient and wild appearance.
Native to the Congo River Basin, Delhezi Bichirs are slow-moving, nocturnal bottom-dwellers that thrive in low-light, well-oxygenated tanks with plenty of hiding spots like rocks, driftwood, and caves. This species is known for being peaceful with similar-sized tankmates but should not be kept with small fish that can fit into its mouth.
Delhezi Bichirs are carnivorous and enjoy a diet of frozen or live foods such as shrimp, bloodworms, and sinking carnivore pellets.
