Banana Cichlid (Neolamprologus leleupi)
Commonly referred to as the Banana Cichlid due to its striking bright yellow to golden coloration, Neolamprologus leleupi is a beautiful and active species native to Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. Its slender body, vibrant color, and territorial nature make it a standout in any cichlid tank.
This species thrives in rocky aquariums with plenty of caves and hiding spaces. It prefers hard, alkaline water and does well in African cichlid community setups—though it can be aggressive, especially when breeding or defending territory.
Banana Cichlids grow up to 4–5 inches, and are best kept with other robust Tanganyikan or similar-sized cichlids. Their diet should include high-protein foods like cichlid pellets, brine shrimp, and frozen foods.
