Blue Gourami (Trichopodus trichopterus – Blue Morph)
The Blue Gourami is a popular and attractive freshwater fish known for its calm nature and shimmering pale blue body. Also called the Three-Spot Gourami, this variant lacks the third “spot” due to its solid color, giving it a sleek and elegant appearance.
They are labyrinth fish, meaning they can breathe air directly from the surface, allowing them to thrive in a wide range of water conditions. Blue Gouramis are generally peaceful but may show mild territorial behavior, especially males.
They grow up to 5–6 inches and are best suited for tanks of 30 gallons or more, with gentle filtration, open swimming space, and plenty of plants or hiding spots. They’re compatible with most peaceful to semi-aggressive community fish, such as mollies, tetras, barbs, and corydoras.
Blue Gouramis are omnivorous and enjoy a diet of flakes, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods. With proper care, they can live 4–6 years or longer.
