The Fullmoon variety is defined by its extreme volume. The caudal (tail) fin is so large that its edges often overlap with the dorsal and anal fins, making the fish look like a floating blossom of silk. They come in spectacular patterns—from iridescent metallic blues to multi-colored “Koi” and “Copper” morphs. These are highly intelligent “personality fish” that are very aware of their owners; they will often follow your finger along the glass and “dance” when they see their food container.

Because the Fullmoon’s fins are so expansive and heavy, gentle water flow is a must. A strong filter current will tire them out quickly. Use a sponge filter or a low-flow internal filter. To protect their “show-grade” fins from tearing, avoid plastic plants and instead use live Silk-leaf plants or Java Ferns. Providing a “Betta Bed” or a broad-leafed plant near the surface is essential, as these heavy-finned beauties love to take frequent naps!
