The Green Senegal Bichir is a fascinating prehistoric fish species, admired for its dinosaur-like appearance, elongated body, and calm yet curious nature. At 4 inches, this juvenile already shows off its smooth green-grey coloration, armored scales, and distinctive dorsal finlets that give it a unique, primitive look.
Originating from slow-moving waters of Africa, the Senegal Bichir is a bottom-dwelling predator that does well in semi-aggressive or predator community tanks. It’s a hardy species that adapts well to various conditions, provided there’s good filtration, dim lighting, and ample hiding spots like driftwood or rocks.
Being a carnivore, it enjoys frozen bloodworms, small feeder fish, shrimp, and sinking carnivore pellets.
Best kept in tanks 4 feet or larger as it grows, the Green Senegal is a peaceful yet exotic addition that adds character to any well-planned aquarium.
