Silver Tinfoil Barb (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii)
The Silver Tinfoil Barb is a striking and robust freshwater fish, admired for its shiny, metallic silver body and vibrant red or orange-tipped fins. Known for their fast swimming and peaceful temperament, they bring a sense of constant motion and sparkle to larger aquarium setups.
These barbs are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of 4 or more to encourage natural behavior and reduce stress. When kept properly, they can grow up to 12–14 inches, making them suitable only for large aquariums (minimum 75–100 gallons).
Silver Tinfoil Barbs are peaceful but may unintentionally disturb smaller or slow-moving fish due to their size and activity. They thrive on a varied diet that includes high-quality pellets, flakes, vegetables, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or bloodworms.
With excellent care and proper space, they can live up to 8–10 years, making them a long-term, impressive addition to spacious community tanks or large species setups.
