Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna)
The Honey Gourami is a gentle, vibrant labyrinth fish known for its stunning honey-gold coloration and calm demeanor. Smaller than most other gouramis, this species is perfect for nano to medium-sized aquariums, and its peaceful nature makes it a great choice for community tanks.
These gouramis grow up to 2–2.5 inches and are best kept in tanks of at least 10–15 gallons. Males display brighter colors—deep gold to orange—especially during courtship or breeding, while females remain slightly paler. They do well in planted tanks with gentle filtration, subdued lighting, and floating plants that mimic their natural environment.
Honey Gouramis are very peaceful, making them suitable companions for small tetras, rasboras, corydoras, shrimp, and other non-aggressive tankmates. Their labyrinth organ allows them to breathe atmospheric air, so they can adapt to lower-oxygen setups as long as surface access is available.
They are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet of micro-pellets, flakes, frozen foods (like bloodworms or daphnia), and occasional live treats. With proper care, they can live 4–6 years, offering charm, color, and tranquility to your aquarium.
