Appearance & Personality
The Platinum Angel is a result of specialized breeding, creating a fish with a solid, metallic-white “glow” and no dark stripes. Under quality aquarium lighting, their scales take on a blue or silver iridescence that looks like liquid metal. They have a tall, compressed body shape and long, trailing pelvic fins that they use to navigate gracefully through tall plants. While generally peaceful when young, they are intelligent and social cichlids that establish territories and can recognize their owners at feeding time.
Why It’s a Premium Selection
-
Breathtaking Visual Impact: Its pure white color creates an incredible contrast against green plants, dark driftwood, and black backgrounds.
-
Elegant Presence: Unlike high-energy barbs, Angels move with a slow, rhythmic grace that brings a sense of calm and luxury to your room.
-
Hardy & Adaptable: Despite their delicate “platinum” appearance, they are quite resilient and can thrive in a variety of water conditions once established.
-
Fascinating Intelligence: Angelfish are highly observant; they will often follow your movement outside the tank and can even be trained to eat from your hand.

Pro Tip for Success
Platinum Angelfish have deep, vertical bodies, so they require a tall tank to grow their fins to their full, majestic potential. They love a “forest-like” environment with tall plants like Amazon Swords or Vallisneria. Since they are cichlids, they are best kept with peaceful but robust tank mates like Corydoras, larger Tetras (like Rummy Nose or Bleeding Heart), and the Siamese Algae Eater. Avoid keeping them with very tiny shrimp or “nippy” fish like Tiger Barbs!
